DJ Application & Show Request

KPCR is a volunteer-run community radio station broadcasting from downtown Los Gatos, California at 92.9FM and from Santa Cruz at 101.9FM. We also stream live online at kpcr.org.

We host a wide range of music and talk shows created by community members. Shows air live or pre-recorded, and we welcome DJs to join us in-studio or remotely with proper setup. KPCR's programming runs 24/7 in one-hour or two-hour blocks, and we regularly refresh our schedule to make space for new voices.

Our Mission

KPCR provides a platform for creative expression, community stories, and music discovery. We prioritize programming that reflects and uplifts underrepresented voices—including women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent creators. We are a home for artists, oddballs, activists, music lovers, and media makers.

Volunteer Commitment

DJs are expected to:

  • Volunteer at least 8 hours per month beyond their show
  • Participate in on-air pledge drives (typically three per year)
  • Pay station dues to help cover operation costs
  • Check email regularly for station updates

Scheduling Notes

  • No one "owns" a time slot — scheduling is based on station needs, availability, and volunteer involvement
  • New schedules roll out 2–3 times per year
  • Current DJs must reapply for each new season

Training

All accepted DJs will attend a training session, either in-person at our Los Gatos studio or remotely. Multiple training dates will be offered.

Co-Hosts

If applying with a co-DJ, submit one application and include both names and contact info. Untrained co-hosts may not operate the board or broadcast independently.
