Teen Radio Camp for Ages 13 – 17

Step into the booth and take the mic this summer at Pirate Cat Radio’s KPCR 92.9FM Radio Camp. This hands-on, broadcast radio and podcast production camp is designed for teens who want to learn the art of audio storytelling.

Campers will work on:

  • Broadcast writing
  • Voice training
  • Segment planning and scripting

By the end of camp, students will create original segments that will air live on KPCR 92.9FM (Silicon Valley) and KMRT 101.9FM (Santa Cruz).

Camp Schedule:
Runs weekly from June 9 to August 8, 2025 (Monday–Friday)

Morning Session (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM):

  • Learn how to write like a real radio/podcast host
  • Practice speaking on-air with confidence
  • Plan your own live radio segment
  • Try your hand at live updates, music intros, interviews, or short features

Afternoon Lab (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM):

  • Record your voice and interviews
  • Edit audio using real tools like the pros
  • Build your own podcast episode from scratch
  • Go live on KPCR 92.9 FM & KMRT 101.9 FM

All-Day Deep Dive (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM):

  • Spend the full day doing everything — host a live radio show, edit your own podcast, and build your own audio style
  • Team up with others to produce real shows that go on the air!

Available for eligible teens.

If a camp week fills up, your name will automatically be added to the waiting list.


CANCELLATION FEES

A $50 non-refundable cancellation fee applies per participant, per camp.

8–15 days before start date: 50% refund minus $50 cancellation fee.

0–7 days before start date: No refund. Transfer possible if space is available. $20 transfer fee applies.

No refunds or proration once the registered week begins, even for missed or sick days.

If Pirate Cat Radio cancels a session, a full refund will be issued.

DISCLAIMER
The undersigned, in consideration of participation in programs operated by KPCR 92.9FM and the Central Coast Media Education Foundation, agrees to indemnify and hold harmless KPCR 92.9FM, Central Coast Media Education Foundation, their Board of Directors, staff, contractors, volunteers, and affiliates from any and all liability for injuries or damages which may occur to the participant(s) in connection with participation in any program, event, or activity.

I acknowledge that I have read and fully understand this agreement and that I assume all risks associated with participation.

Media Release:
I grant permission to KPCR 92.9FM, Central Coast Media Education Foundation, and their designated videographers or photographers to use photos, audio, and video recordings taken during program participation. This includes use—without name unless credited in a program—for broadcast on-air (92.9FM and 101.9FM), as well as on websites, print materials, social media platforms, and YouTube.

All photos and video will be taken in public or supervised group settings where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy.

I understand that:

I will not receive compensation for such use.

This release applies to future participation in any program operated by KPCR 92.9FM or the Central Coast Media Education Foundation.

Medical Authorization:
In the event I or my minor child requires emergency medical care while under the supervision of KPCR 92.9FM program staff or volunteers, I authorize them to provide or obtain necessary medical treatment. I understand that every effort will be made to contact me, but prior contact is not required to administer emergency care. I accept full responsibility for all related medical expenses.

I confirm I am the parent or legal guardian of the named minor and that they are physically able to participate in the activities. I have explained the content and risks of this agreement to the minor.
